How to Remove Your Oven Door

Whether you need to replace faulty components such as the inner glass and door seal, or you simply want to give your appliance a more thorough clean, it can be incredibly useful to know how to remove your oven door. Luckily, this is usually a very simple and straightforward process for most ovens, so you won't have to worry about remembering any complicated steps or investing in special equipment. So to find out how to remove and replace your oven door, keep reading:

How to Remove Your Oven Door:

Make sure that your oven is switched off, disconnecting any power supplies.
Lower the oven door and inspect the hinge, this will let you know how to lock the hinges in place for removal.
Lock the hinges in place either by: Turing the screw with a half turn (two-part hinge system), folding the catch over (one part hinge system), fitting a pin into the hole (pin type hinge) or by folding the latch back into the glass (latch over type).
Once you have locked the clips, place your hands on either side of the oven door, lifting it to a 45-degree angle.
Grip the sides of the door firmly, then gently lift the door upwards and out of the hinges.

Replacing Your Oven Door:

Once you've successfully removed your oven door and completed your desired application, it should be fairly simple to replace your oven door by following the same steps in reverse:

First, hold the door at the same angle with your hands at either side, before lowering the hinges into the slots.
Once the hinges are in place, carefully lower the oven door to horizontal level, so that it's in the same position as when you began removing it.
Replacing the locking mechanism either by clipping it into place and/or replacing the screws.
Examine the oven door before closing it, to ensure that it has been successfully reattached.

Here's a few extra things you may find when removing your oven door:

Gloves - These will help you to grip the door whilst also protecting your hands.
A Phillips-Head Screwdriver - This will come in handy if you need to pry the hinges out of their sockets, or if your hinges are screwed into place.
Hinge Lubricant - This will help to ease the hinge movement if it has become jammed or is very stiff.
A Pin or Allen Key - Some oven door hinges come with a hole that allows you to lock the hinges into place for removal.

How to Replace Your Oven Door Handle

You don't know how important your Oven Door Handle is until it's gone. Without your door handle, you're going to struggle to open your oven door to get into your oven cavity. With age, your oven door handle can become loose and if it is pulled or hit with a large force, it may come off or even break. When this happens, you should look into replacing your oven door handle.

How to Replace Your Oven Door Handle

Disconnect your appliance before starting to replace your oven door handle.
Remove the oven door from the cooker. Once your cooker is safe to use, you can begin work on replacing your oven door handle by removing the faulty one. To do this, lift up the hinge catches; lift the door up and away from your oven.
Remove the inner door and hinges from your oven door. To do this, undo the 4 screws at the bottom and the 2 screw at the top of your inner door. Once, the screws are removed carefully remove your inner door and hinges.
Unscrew the oven door handle from the bracket. The bracket may not be fully connected so please be careful.
Screw your new oven door handle into place. Ensure that all washers are on the screw and the plastic washer goes on the outside of the door. It's important that you don't screw the first side of your door handle too tightly, as you'll struggle bringing it up the other side of the door handle. Also, when fitting the other side of the door handle, place the plastic washer in first, lay the door flat, and put the screw and other washers in place.
Refit the inner part of your door, and screw in place.
Now, refit the oven door. Make sure you hook the hinge up into the oven, and drop it down, ensuring it's secure by putting the locks in place.
And there you have it; you've just replaced your oven door handle, congrats!
